Passwords have long been the standard way to authenticate users and protect online accounts. However, passwords are also a major security vulnerability. They can be easily hacked, stolen, or forgotten.

A passkey is a digital key that is stored on your device and used to authenticate you to websites and apps (Google, n.d). Passkeys are created using a combination of public key cryptography and biometric authentication, such as a fingerprint or facial scan. This makes them much more secure than traditional passwords, which can be easily compromised.
